About Sown Seed Foundation
Sown Seed Foundation is dedicated to transforming unused urban and suburban land into vibrant community gardens. We believe that by tending the earth together, we can provide fresh nutrition while cultivating deeper connections between neighbors and their environment.
Through our network of garden labs, we teach sustainable growing practices and foster a culture of shared labor and mutual support. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every seed planted is an opportunity for community growth and environmental stewardship.
Why we exist
In an increasingly disconnected world, we exist to bridge the gap between people, their food, and their faith. Many communities face food insecurity and social isolation; our gardens act as a living solution, providing physical nourishment and spiritual grounding through the rhythmic cycles of the land.
Faith at work in the soil
We view gardening as a form of worship and a tangible expression of Christian love. Working the soil allows us to witness the miracles of creation firsthand, teaching us patience, humility, and the importance of stewardship within God's green earth.
How we work
Our model is built on active partnership and collective responsibility. We identify suitable land, provide the necessary tools and seeds, and organize regular garden workdays where community members lead the effort from planting to harvest.
We also run educational programs for youth, teaching them the science of agriculture and the values of hard work and environmental care. By involving all generations, we ensure the knowledge and the harvest are shared fairly across the community.
Where we're headed
Our vision is to see a thriving community garden in every neighborhood. We are expanding our outreach to form more seed partnerships with churches and local organizations, aiming to grow even more shared spaces where nourishmen, faith and community can bloom.
